The Ben McAdoo Era is Upon Us

Is this happening? I’m freaking out right now and I can’t figure out why.  People are actually texting me asking for my opinion and I don’t know what to say.  The interview process seemed like it was coming along very slowly, so I’m shocked that it accelerated this quickly.

*five minutes of pacing and pondering*

I am a 50/50 split of excitement and terror.  McAdoo revitalized Eli Manning’s career; Eli has posted career highs each of the two seasons with McAdoo on the staff.  There are a shit ton of questions right now, and I think I can answer oneof them in a way that will calm both myself and many other Giants fans:

  1.  Does he have the experience.  Let’s use Mike Tomlin as a case study.

Okay, lets be honest, Tomlin has a TON of success in the NFL.  And quite like Coughlin, he succeeded a future HOF coach and inherited a future HOF QB (although Ben was not at the HOF level when they hired him).

So with that being said, here is McAdoo’s resume to this point:

Many parallels: Tomlin served as a positional coach for five seasons, switching to coordinator for only ONE year before becoming the head coach of the PITTSBURGH STEELERS.  The Giants can be mentioned in the same breath as the Steelers in terms of history.  Which is why I trust this move.  I think I have calmed myself down.  Before I was sort of:

But I think I have a calmed down.  It is nice to see a guy finally installed in the helm and I can stop worrying about the Mara’s going off the deep end and trying to reanimate Chuck Noll’s corpse.

Although, I will address the uniqueness of Tomlin’s situation.  That sort of meteoric rise only happens once in a coaching generation I.E John Harbaugh, Jon Gruden etc.  Guy’s usually either have to be a STUD at the college level or paid their dues at the pro level.  However, I would argue that the Giants and Steelers are very similar in organizational structure, so I think this move may pan out the same way.

So there you have it, this was a pure reaction blog.  I started writing this as soon as I heard the news, and since that point have calmed down considerably.  Had I managed to cram 500 words in before I calmed down, it may have been a threat to both myself and everything Giants.  Thankfully I write at a half the speed of smell and thus averted a potentially messy cyber situation.

Also, the one guy I am trying to feel out is Joe Philbin.  RUMORED to be the offensive coordinator for the Giants now.  There was definitely a period of unrest in Green Bay after he left, so I do not doubt his ability as a play caller.  Now that he has an established quarterback again maybe he will be the guy that was so coveted out of Green Bay.

Well, here he is, your 18th Head Coach of the New York Football Giants:

The man can wear the SHIT out of a groutfit.

Last thing–McAdoo is the spitting image of my uncle who works in the TSA and has back problems, who also looks like Jeff Foxworthy.  God I am in for a rough 2016.
